Track 6
Music by R. Molema
Lyrics by R. Molema
Inspired & Translated from 'Nooit Meer Slapen' the novel by Willem Frederik Hermans
In full marching kit hiking through the valley
I walk till I drop
In full marching kit my pack’s too heavy
I shall collapse by this load

Suddenly the sun starts to shine
Finds its way through the clouds.
And I believe this is the sign
That I find what must be found

In full marching kit hiking through the valley
I walk and I walk

Mosquitoes vex me, the naked skin is punished
They fly into my open mouth, while I gasp for breath
The river hampers me, but I want to walk on
And now I’m in the open fields, and my shoes are worn out

The landscape is continuously changing
Flat terrain passes into the mountains
Stone replaced by moors
Boulders by moor and reverse

And the river is full of stones
Don’t stay at the side, there is no solution
Simply march on, step and leap
Without thinking like climbing a stairway
That’s the secret!!!

While I'm trying to sleep in our tent, questions going through my head
How many rivers are there to be crossed, how many mountains with unreachable peaks
They're like potsherds on the horizon.
Willl I survive in world of mountains, rivers, mosquitoes and pain
The days are so bright, and the nights are the same
There is no darkness in this northern loneliness.

There is no love of people, this isn't created for man.
It's hard to believe but I don't belong here.
This is not the place for me
